#4 – What the Greek can tell us about failure and marriages, and why targeting still matters and AI is a waste of time
Hello friends of Strategy Bites,
This week’s Six Links of Inspiration are coming to you from the Greek island of Zakynthos. So it’s a holiday issue of sorts. (And also the pre-Coronation issue.) That’s why this week’s links talk about failing or not failing, Socrates’ view on marriages, sophisticated mass marketers need for targeting, and a browser plug-in for the Coronation.
Enjoy the read.
There is no failure in sport. Giannis Antetokounmpo’s already internet famous response to a journalist’s reductive question about failure. He’s basically written the voice over for the next Nike ad. (At about 1:10 for everyone who’s impatient.)
How ‘enlightened selfishness’ can lead to a more fulfilling marriage. This philosophic piece isn’t just about marriage, it’s about relationships and romances and therefore about life itself. I won’t go as far as linking it to brands. Because that’d just be cynical. (Thanks Amy for sharing this on your LinkedIn.)
Even sophisticated mass marketers need targeting. Mark Ritson shares big news: he’s becoming a father again. (Congratulations.) And that the word “sophisticated” in sophisticated mass marketing matters. A lot.
Strategy Link Bank. While I might not share her infatuation with frameworks, I share her obsession with sharing knowledge about strategy and planning as far and wide as possible. Baiba’s list of links is a great place to start for whatever you want to know as a junior (or not so junior) strategist.
AI is a waste of time. What we’re doing with AI isn’t dystopian or utopian, it’s just “the latest way to waste time”, says Derek Thompson (slightly taken out of context.)
Logged Toff: Māori artist’s web plugin replaces king’s coronation with Indigenous news. Shared by Rob Cambell on LinkedIn.
